Important Updates Regarding University Apartments

In January 2026, the university will initiate preparations for the construction of a $160 million medical building on the site currently occupied by Buildings F, G, H, and J. Consequently, these buildings will undergo demolition during the spring semester.

This development will impact students residing in Buildings F, G, H, and J. In order to support the comfort, safety, and success of these residents, we will provide alternative on-campus accommodations for the spring semester. We are committed to addressing any preferences regarding location to the best of our ability.

Students moved to a different unit type will retain their current fall housing rate if moved to a unit with a higher rate. If the new unit has a lower rate, the spring bill will be updated to reflect the lower charge.

For those opting to move off-campus, the university permits the cancellation of their housing agreement without penalty. We kindly ask that any intent to cancel be communicated to our office by November 1.

Effective immediately, a form will be accessible in the housing portal at my.FIU.edu, allowing students to specify up to three preferences for their spring assignment. The button in the housing portal will be labeled “UA Relocation.”

Next Steps:

A Town Hall meeting with university leadership will be conducted on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 6:30 PM in Graham Center Room 355. This meeting will serve as an opportunity to address questions and concerns.

New housing assignments will be communicated by mid-November, with moves scheduled to take place during the week of December 15-19.

Should you have any inquiries or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Housing Office at housing@fiu.edu or by phone at (305) 348-4190. We are dedicated to facilitating a smooth transition for all affected students.
