Undergraduate Student Staff Position

  • Housing Ambassadors

    The Housing Ambassador (HA) position is an integral member of the Housing team, serving as the first point of contact and representative of the Housing Operations office.  The Housing Ambassador serves as a service provider and resource for current residential students, families, visitors, and persons outside of the University community.  As members of the Housing Office staff, the HAs work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and information.  Together, the HAs and other housing staff provide services that support the mission, vision, and values of the Housing Office.  With the goal of providing excellent services to students in the residence halls, Housing Ambassadors are responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative and customer service responsibilities.  The Housing Ambassador is responsible for:

    • Answering the departmental phone line, receiving, and disseminating fliers and other information, and assisting with general office tasks.
    • Providing clerical support for office staff by maintaining files, creating documents, assisting with data entry, making phone calls, etc.

     

    HAs are expected to be familiar with and utilize departmental databases/systems to answer questions and assist residents. They will perform clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and faxing documents and complete special projects as assigned by the professional staff in Housing Operations

  • Student Marketing Assistant

    The Student Marketing Assistants is responsible for the creation of various print and online media projects for Housing & Residential Experience. This position will report to the Associate Brand Manager. The student worker will focus on departmental branding materials and other graphic design projects as assigned such as:

    • Create advertisements, digital signage, web graphics, promotional materials to advertise and promote Housing & Residential Experience
    • Increase database of photos to be used in publications, website, promotional materials, etc. (Will include photos of residential spaces and residence experience programs)
    • Must understand and work within University and Division of Student Affairs graphic standards and branding guidelines
  • IT Assistant

    The IT Assistant position is an integral member of the Housing and Residential Experience team. The Housing IT Student Assistant works collaboratively with the IT Assistant Director and other staff members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and information. Together, the Housing IT Student Assistant and IT Assistant Director support the mission, vision, and values of the Housing and Residential Experience Office. With the goal of providing excellent services to students in the residence halls, Housing IT is responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative responsibilities that ensure technology operates in our department.

  • Mail Assistant

    The Mail Assistant (MA) position is an integral role of the Housing team, serving as first point of contact and representative of the Housing Package Center (HPC). The Mail Assistant serves as a service provider and resource for current residential students. As members of the Housing staff, the MAs collaborate with other staff members to ensure the effective and efficient processing of packages and letter mail. Together, the MAs and other housing staff provide services that support the mission, vision, and values of the Housing Office.

    With the goal of providing excellent services to residential students, Mail Assistants are responsible for:

    • Processing all incoming packages and letter mail
    • Loading parcel lockers for 24-hour package availability
    • Handling resident's inquiries in person and on the phone
    • Ensuring a great customer experience to all residents
  • Housing Finance Ambassador

    The HousingFinance Ambassador (HFA) position is an integral member of the Housing team, serving as first point of contact and representative of the Housing Finance office.  The Finance Ambassador serves as a service provider and resource for current residential students, families, visitors, and persons outside of the University community.  As members of the Finance staff, the HFA’s work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and information.  Together, the HFAs and other housing Finance provide services that support the mission, vision, and values of the Finance Office.  With the goal of providing excellent customer services to students regarding Housing payments and answering any inquiries, the HFAs are responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative and customer service responsibilities.  The Housing Finance Ambassador is responsible for:

    • Answering the departmental phone line, and the online help desk chat
    • Assisting with general office tasks
    • Providing clerical support for office staff by maintaining files, creating documents, assisting with data entry, making phone calls, etc.

     

    HFAs are expected to be familiar with and utilize departmental databases/systems to answer questions and assist residents. They will perform clerical tasks such as filing and copying documents and complete special projects as assigned by the professional staff in Housing Finance.

  • Conference Assistant

    The Conference Assistant (CA) position is an integral member of the Housing team, serving as a liaison of the Housing Office and Florida International University to all conferences held at the institution during the summer months. The CA serves as a service provider and resource for summer conferences organizers and attendees. Conference organizers and attendees can be interns of the university, groups of special programs which collaborate with the university, and persons outside of the University community.  As members of the Housing Office staff, the CAs work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and information.  Together, the CAs and other housing staff provide services that support the mission, vision, and values of the Housing Office.  With the goal of providing excellent services to conference guests in the residence halls, Conference Assistants are responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative and customer service responsibilities. 

  • Desk Assistant

    The Desk Assistant (DA) is a part-time, paraprofessional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residential Experience at Florida International University. The DA works closely with and is directly responsible to the immediate supervisor, the Assistant Residence Experience Coordinator (AREC) but works in collaboration with the Residence Experience Coordinator and the Residence Experience Staff in the particular area of placement. The DA will enforce Housing & University policies, rules and regulations, serve as a receptionist for the front desk, provide information to desk patrons, and provide excellent customer service. As a DA, you will be directly responsible for coordinating a Residential atmosphere conducive to student needs and interests.

  • Resident Assistant
    The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a live-in position, whereupon, you are responsible for facilitating a positive community among residents, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, and serving as a departmental and university representative and role model, all while living in a department assigned unit within the Residential Experience community. This position description and agreement serves as an overview of the HRE expectations of your RA position with additional community specific expectations provided by your supervisor.
  • Facilities Assistant
    The Housing Facilities Assistant (FA) position is an integral part of the Housing Facilities team and serves as a contact for the Facilities Administrative Service Manager. The FAs are responsible to assist with a wide range of Housing Facilities duties, focusing on Housing Operations and Residence Maintenance, quality assurance, and assisting in the Lost and Found process.

Graduate Student Staff Positions

  • Building Assistant

    The Building Assistant (BA) is a part-time, paraprofessional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residential Experience at Florida International University. The BA will serve as a receptionist for the desk, serving as an information resource to callers, taking messages, and forwarding calls appropriately. The BA will manage programming budgets and will assist on a number of projects and tasks, including but not limited to; maintain inventories, assist with reports, distribution of advertisements, manage supplies and process paperwork. BAs work Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.

  • Assistant Residential Experience Coordinator
    The Assistant Residential Experience Coordinator (AREC) or Graduate Assistant for Residential Experience (GRAD) is a part-time (20 hours per week appointment), live-in graduate student staff member. The AREC reports to a Residential Experience Coordinator and provides assistance in the operation of a specific residence hall/apartment area. Must possess an earned Bachelor's Degree and be admitted to a graduate program at Florida International University. Prior work experience in residential experience utilizing a curricular approach. The ideal candidate will also have the following: a caring, helpful and positive attitude, effective time management, confrontation skills, ability to lead a team, prior knowledge of a residential living-learning philosophy, an appreciation for diversity and working with a multicultural student population.
