Resident Responsibilities

Students in the residence halls are expected to abide by all policies as stated in the FIU Student Code Of Conduct. All residents should review the section on Housing & Residential Life before and during their stay in on-campus housing. Not adhering to student codes of conduct may also result in a fee.

Residents are responsible for keeping their own rooms clean in order to discourage pests, mold, bacterial growth, and other health and safety hazards. This includes:

  • Disposing of trash in designated areas
  • Sorting recyclables and placing them in designated recycling containers outside each building
  • Cleaning up after yourself if you become ill
  • Sweeping debris into trash cans, not hallways

Cleaning your room regularly. Work out a room-cleaning schedule that satisfies both you and your roommates. Residents who cannot maintain their space in a manner deemed appropriate by university staff may be charged by Housing Facilities for cleaning performed by staff in a unit.

Residents must make housing payments and fees in a timely manner or face account holds, late fees, and other consequences as outlined in your housing agreement. For more on payment requirements, see the Payment and Refund Policy
